Life is short so you have to do what makes sense for you. 👉

Is it time to get out? Well…that depends on you.

Summertime 2023 is approaching quickly – can you believe it? When the weather gets nice, many of us plan for time away from the office for some rest and relaxation.

Now, what if you take your holidays and you don’t feel like going back to work?

Many of us feel this way after a holiday but what if you truly dread the idea of going back. The stress is taking a major toll on you and subsequently on your family. Or you feel like you have other passions you want to follow and your existing job is not one of them.

I’m not saying leaving your public sector job is a great fit for everyone. If your focus is on maximizing the total amount of your pension, it’s not a fit for you. If you love the work you do and feel fulfilled, it’s not a fit for you.

However, if you are the person who feels like they can’t handle another 5 years in their role, then it might be time for a change.

Life is short so you have to do what makes sense for you. This may mean taking a commuted lump sum pension today.

Keep in mind, there are ways to recover the penalization costs like new-found revenue generating opportunities, moving to a less expensive area, not paying as much on gas and work attire, etc.

Reach out to my team and learn more about if this option is a fit for you and what your plan should be. And, enjoy your coffee by the lake now.

PS: Many clients have been asking us lately, “When should I take my CPP?”

Taking it early might make sense from one perspective, while taking it late might make sense from another perspective.

Unfortunately, like many things, the answer is “It Depends!”

Reasons why you may hold off:

  • You are in a higher tax bracket

  • You are healthy

  • You have other sources of income

Email my team direct if you have specific questions.
